Subject: water chemicals

On a hot water boiler do you essentially only need to put the chemicals in once unless you need to add makeup water?

I think that it normally works out that way, yes. At least compared to steam boilers. ;)

Once you get a hot water boilers chemistry under control, then you only have to make additions as you add new water. That doesn't mean that every time that you add 4 gallons, you'll have to add chemicals, but the chemistry will tend drift as you keep adding water until you, eventually, will have to add chemicals again.
